.ASIA Era Begins
As of the 20th of February this year, people can start signing up for their .ASIA domains in the .ASIA Landrush. The Landrush will serve as the inauguration of an extension that could prove to be amongst the strongest to date. The initial public offering (IPO if you will), of this Top Level Domain (TLD) will light a new flame to the domain world, especially in the region itself. With hundreds of millions of internet users in the Asia/Pacific region, corporations would be amiss not to take advantage of registering a .ASIA domain. The future is fast approaching, and now is the time to tap into some of the fastest growing economies and 60% of the world’s population by relishing in the “grand opening” of the .ASIA.
The demand is already overwhelming, not only from individuals but corporations as well. The CEO of DotASIA, Edmon Chung already recognizes that the launch will be a huge success. He has seen the interest go through the roof in the form of applications to register the domains. “If you look at the trend in overall registrations, especially with the strong growth in Asia, we can project a huge number of applications during the Landrush period,” said Chung.
In fact, the .ASIA Sunrise Auction was already successfully completed on Jan. 31, 2008. Over 130 countries around the world participated, submitting over 30,000 applications to date. High winning bids have exceeded US$20,000, while the average winning bid for contested auctions have grown to US$2,000. Through the .ASIA Pioneer program (www.think.ASIA) prominent brands have already invested in their .ASIA domain. Participants include Time Inc, Amazon, AIG, Sony Ericsson, Cosmopolitan, Deutsche Telekom, the Economist, t he International Olympic Committee, Yahoo! will write a brief proposal on the domains they are bidding for. This method preserves the most prestigious .ASIA real estate in for those who plan on using the .ASIA domain for relevant content and information. This helps maintain a level of quality for Internet users around the world.
We have seen a number of TLD’s become huge players in the domain world. Mobile technology is now a mainstay in our culture: PDA’s, laptops, and palm pilots. Everything, including the internet, has to be mobile these days. This increasing demand for technological mobility has pushed the .MOBI into a most profitable position. The same idea can hold true for the .ASIA. In a land where the population is steadily increasing and technology is flourishing, the .ASIA is opening its own floodgates.
The internet marketplace is growing exponentially. With the .ASIA on the rise, the future looks bright for business owners who now have the ability to not only just reach the Asian population, but target them specifically.
